The DIY car wash line of products is one that came to stay.

If you are one of those guys who can’t trust those money-loving automatic car scams, err... I mean wash services, and rather do things on your own, you have probably been testing out countless lines of products, brands and magical solutions…

BEST CASE SCENARIO:

YOU’RE NOT USING AN EXPENSIVE REGULAR SOAP!

But, experienced or not, have you ever heard about waterless products?

No, your car is not going to be intolerant or oversensitive to water…

Waterless car wash products are meant to get even better results than regular products, without the need for crazy amounts of water that you’re used to in order to remove dirt, dust and stains from your car.

They’re definitely one of the best technologies ever developed for those who are looking for an easier way of getting into DIY detailing. Aside from this obvious advantage, they also save you a pretty penny in the long run, and don’t wreck the environment to pieces!

Unfortunately, as everyone should expect, not every single product delivers on its promises, and may even compromise your car’s paint along with your health.

But hey, we’re all friends here, and we want to help you make up your mind for the product that’s right for you!

In order to do that, we’re going to break down myths and facts, do’s and don’ts when choosing a waterless product for your car. Without further ado, let’s get to it.

Ok, first things first: What do waterless products should do in the first place?

At first, the idea of skipping the use of water may seem strange or even pointless. After all, how are stains supposed to wash away, right?

Well, that’s where you might be wrong my water-loving friend. Dust may be easily removed with a quick dry hand cleaning with a proper cloth, such as a microfiber.

BUT...

Dirt and stains are NOT supposed to be washed away as the particles move around, even when you don’t see them anymore, damaging your car!

Instead, a true waterless product should contain surfactants, which are compounds that attack any kind of stains and dirt particles, dissolving them entirely and removing them completely from your car.

To use them, you only need to apply them on your car’s surface, gently and carefully, in the right amount. The end result is a dry shine that is free from any grime or light dirt.

But be careful, some products will promise less than expected or over promise impossible things as if the product itself acted as your insurance company… sad, but true, DIY detailing scammers are really hungry for your money!

The key is being objective when choosing your product and base your decision on proof and solid facts that can be proven empirically by yourself and others.

There are a lot of myths circulating around about the effectiveness of chemical waterless car detailers.

First, we got the issue of such a product scratching your car’s paint…

Why is this a big deal?

Because some folks actually claim that a certain product was ENTIRELY responsible and did nothing but destroy their car’s paint.

But truth is, it’s all on you buddy!

The 2 main causes for marring and scratching are using the wrong product and improper technique. If the right product is applied in the right amounts, you should get exactly what you expect: an impeccably clean, shiny and ready-to-go car that will stay like that for months!

If your current product doesn’t achieve that, you better think twice about how you’re currently taking care of your car, because you got it wrong, partner!

The first rule of thumb: Avoid waterless car washes that contain silicone in it. Even when they’re used in way too many liquid polishes and all sorts of detailing products, they usually eat your car out…

How it works? The car’s goes through a process called “drifting” where the silicone particles embed themselves into the paint resulting in medium to long term overexposure to the sun and environment, and also severe problems for paint touch-ups or repainting.

Is that all? Nope, IT GETS WORSE!

The particles embed themselves deeper into the paint every time the surface is washed with water. When exposed to UV rays, they keep reducing the car’s shine and the color will eventually look washed out.

Moreover, the material and wiping technique used when cleaning your car will have a noticeable impact on how a waterless car wash product works. Generally, the product needs to be wiped off before it dries on the surface using light, gentle strokes, and applying the right amount without pressing too much against the surface.

Most of the inexperienced car detailing enthusiasts treat these kind of products as if they were pure water, not being aware that the product that’s supposed to deliver a washing effect against unwanted agents and a protective coat on the surface need to be treated with special care.

Now that we have detailed how waterless car wash products work, there’s only one more myth to uncover.

Competition and haters claim that ALL waterless products don’t really help the environment because of the chemicals they’re made of.

This is absolutely debatable, but, as always, it depends on the product you choose.

The ecological factor of each waterless product is broken down to 2 facts: First, your product has to be completely VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) free, since those compounds are famous for being harmful on people and pets too, and they’re usually part of cheap knock offs and washed out products.

Also, consider this: How is saving water considered NOT eco-friendly!?

Ordinary car washes waste between 20 to 50 gallons of water per car. And those gallons go straight to the sewers!

Not to mention, washing your vehicle with a detergent will result in soapy water mixed with residue from exhaust fumes, oil, and gasoline that will flow into soil to be absorbed in the end…

Suddenly using only little water for washing the microfiber cloth you used doesn’t sound so bad after all, huh?

So, finally, after clearing things up on waterless DIY car detailers, we’ll save you the trial and error phase you may experience trying to find the right product for your car (and your wallet).

This is hands down the best in terms of content, results, investment and benefits!

Better than wax!

Shine Armor is the real deal ... applied to the whole car in 20 mins and another 10 to do the rims. The shine is noticeable and the feel is smooth like traditional wax without the bucket of water, sponge, buffer, or wax residue. This is amazing stuff! I can see how layering it can become an obsession. I liked it so much, I sent my dad a kit!

Fantastic!!!

I had trouble keeping my car shiny. After a wash, the clean and shiny look would be gone 2-3 days after. My husband applied Shine Armor last week Wednesday and it’s now Wednesday again and the car looks like it was just washed. It has this clean and shiny look to it. My husband and I are surprisingly happy with Shine Armor, with one coat our suv looks amazing! We’ll definitely purchase more! We highly recommend this product!
